The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has asked large taxpayers to re-register their businesses and verify all business information the Authority has on them to avoid any punitive action.
The deadline for the re-registration exercise is September 2013, and failure to adhere to the directive will result in sanctions from the Authority and possible closure of the companies, said Paul Kwakyi, an official of the GRA at a seminar in Accra.
He advised business owners to take advantage of the ongoing re-registration programme to help enhance transparency in the system.
The seminar was to educate companies described as large taxpayers about the issues of re-registration and verification to boost their knowledge and enhance tax compliance.
“The seminar is important
because it provides both taxpayers and
administrators an opportunity to openly discuss challenges with the view to
improving and providing solutions,” Mr. Kwakyi said.
He said the GRA is taking the necessary steps to
ensure that education and information availability, which is one major
challenge hampering the collection of revenue from large taxpayers, is
enhanced.
Touching on the GRA’s e-application process, he said
it has been introduced to make it easier for business owners to transact business
in the comfort of their homes and offices.
“e-Registration is to ensure that information is
updated with the Registrar-General’s Department to make the system more
transparent,” he said.
