New council for GCCI inducted

A 20-member Council of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI)  has officially been inducted into office .at a ceremony in Accra.

The 19 -member Council has the mandate as the highest decision making entity of the Chamber and derives its powers from the legislative instrument 611 which sets up the Chamber and in that provision, it is clear that the Council is the governing body.

A Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Seth Terkper said  government’s policy to make private sector active is still on course since the sector was a bench mark in economic development and assured that government would continue to collaborate with the private sector to make them more competitive.

Mr. Terkper said that government is committed to the goals and targets set up by the Chamber for the development of the private sector.

He congratulated members and said active participation of the private sector in the areas of industry and engineering would create a lot of jobs for the youth throughout the country.

“We have the vision of creating prosperity for all and to achieve the overall objective of transforming the Ghanaian economy with effective collaboration.” he said.

The President of GCCI, Mr. Seth Adjei-Baah, said the council is the governing body of the chamber and its membership is of key importance as every decision it takes directly affects the course of the chamber.

He said the continued transformation of the chamber would be nothing but an evidence of the effectiveness of the council, and with the hope that members shall without fail perform its functions effectively.

“We must not forget that many institutions and bodies have suffered great setbacks and eventual collapse because they lacked the right kind of leaders to effectively steer their affairs but with confidence and hope this new council is well able to deliver without fail,” Mr. Adjei- Baah said .
