Total Petroleum Ghana has
launched an anti-malaria campaign aimed at assisting in the global effort toward the prevention and
control of malaria in the country.
The campaign marked World
Malaria Day and was under the theme ‘Total Petroleum Ghana against
Malaria’, and was targetted at children residing in communities
with a high rate of malaria infection.
The event was held at the
Islamic Training Institute Park, Kanda, near Accra, and brought together 2,500
pupils from various schools, as well as opinion leaders within the Nima and
surrounding communities
It was part of the company’s corporate
strategy of creating a platform to educate the communities about prevention and
treatment of malaria.
The function afforded the
children an opportunity to present sketches, poetry recitals, dance and partake
in quiz competitions -- all around the theme of malaria prevention.
An awards ceremony to climax
the event saw various prizes, plaques and certificates awarded to the
participating pupils and heads of schools.
Each child received an
insecticide-treated bednet, a malaria educational kit and other souvenirs to
enhance their knowledge on the disease. The children are expected to serve as
anti-malaria ambassadors within their localities.
For the past five years Total Petroleum has organised
community-based activities to assist in the prevention and control of malaria,
with remarkable progress being made in many communities.
The campaign continues to other
health facilities within various deprived communities across the country.
