The Alliance for Integrity, a business-driven multi-stakeholder initiative between private sector organisations, civil society, public organizations, academia and international institutions, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, has successfully conducted the first train-the-trainer workshop as well as compliance training for businesses in Accra as part of its capacity building activities.
The Train-the-trainer workshop and the compliance training for businesses attracted 24 professionals from various business organizations who participated in the two-day training programme, which was organized in collaboration with the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Participants for the Train-the-trainer workshop on the first day were taken through the Alliance for Integrity’s adapted training modules and cases. They were coached on how to become trainers for the Alliance for Integrity and administer compliance training programmes to businesses that have little or no experience in compliance management.
As part of the training programme, major companies with well-established compliance systems become trainers and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with little experience, in countering corruption by transferring their knowledge and experiences. The companies gain practical tools to solve problems related to corruption and to increase their competitiveness.
On the second day of the training, compliance practitioners and personnel from a number of private sector organizations were taught how to use compliance management to attain competitive advantage.
Participants learned various concepts and theories of business integrity and anti-corruption and had the opportunity to go through tried-and-tested tools for corruption prevention and how to deal with such situations.
Participants were also educated on sanctions and incentives that can be applied to businesses as a way of preventing corruption and increasing business integrity. Additionally, the training highlighted various collective and external measures that can be adopted to prevent corruption in businesses.
Commenting on the outcome of the training, Hector Awaana, who is the Accounting and Finance Manager of Aidec Holdings Limited, said “The training was very practical, insightful and educative. The lessons learnt will aid us in our fight against corruption, improve our compliance systems and better position us to be more competitive”.
The training was
conducted by Florian Lair an international expert from the Alliance for
Integrity’s Secretariat in Germany. The Alliance for Integrity will organise
one-day compliance training programmes in Takoradi, Kumasi, Tamale and a final one in Accra before the end of the year.
