Book on Transformational leadership launched

A nine-chapter book titled ‘Transformational leadership -- Walking the Talk’ has been launched in Accra, with the aim of challenging African leaders to affect the continent and compete effectively at the global stage.

The book is a module that will radically transform the continent and reduce intractable problems like unemployment, economic instability and the unfavourable world trade and economic order.

The author, Mr. Andy Osei Okrah -- Human Resource Manager at the Forestry Commission, launching the book in Accra explained that the African continent is ready with a new crop of leadership keen on transformation, and that effective policies fashioned and designed to incorporate youth into the mainstream body politic can only be realised through the right leadership.

“Africa has a lot to behold, including natural resources and human capital. The continent needs a transformational leadership style for leaders to drastically influence the present generation. Transformational leadership is what will work for Africa in 21st century,” he said.

“After carefully analysing the problems on the continent, I have come to believe that we need the transformation leadership style, especially in this 21st century, to accelerate growth and development,” he stated.

Mr. Okrah emphasised that Africa needs transformational leadership, and the book seeks to analyse various leadership styles including pre-European African leadership, European-induced African leadership, colonial African leadership, and post-independence leadership.

The decision to author a book on transformational leadership was to concretise the rich experience, ideas, skills and knowledge of leadership into a written document to ensure the sustainability of ideas.
The book is a good read and has been put together for everyone: including corporate executives, young entrepreneurs, politicians and students.

Speaking on behalf of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the official launch of the book, he said that the transformational leadership book could not have come at a better time, when humanity is in dire need of transformation fuelled by a vibrant youth.

“Africa has the best resources yet the continent is very poor, due largely to bad leadership; our past generation has failed, but hopes the upcoming generation will turn the misfortunes around,” he said.
