Mfantsipim to launch biennial distinction awards

A biennial awards scheme to honour old boys of Mfantsipim School will be launched this year under the theme: “FULFILLING THE DREAMS OF OUR FOUNDING FATHERS”.

The19 awards will aim at promoting excellence and service; and selections will made by a nine-member independent jury.

According to the  statement issued by the Mfantsipim School Development Committee, promoters of the biennial awards, all old boys, teachers (past and present), non-teaching staff (past and present), PTA Executives (past and present) and all other individuals, institutions, as well as private and public institutions are eligible candidates for the awards, when they are nominated by qualified nominators. No one can nominate himself or herself.

The awards include Lifetime Achievement Award, awarded to an Old Boy after 50 years of graduation or a Teaching Staff who has built an enduring legacy for the School through a lifetime of cheerful service to the School and in professional service. 

The award is intended to recognize only those extraordinary people who have deeply influenced and significantly contributed to the vision and dreams of the Founding Fathers. Lifetime Achievement Award recipients shall qualify to be considered for induction into the Mfantsipim Hall of Fame 10 years after their award.

The Citizen of Mfantsipim Award recognizes outstanding contributions to Mfantsipim School by a non-alumnus or alumina through leadership service or a special gift.

Other awards would include Mfantsipim Alumni of Distinction award to be awarded to an Old Boy who has distinguished himself in service to the school or the world and has characterized or exemplified the academic physical and spiritual growth we hold as goals in the life of Mfantsipim School students and has displayed loyalty and interested concern for the school and its future.

Distinction in Community Service Award and Outstanding Young Alumnus: This award would go to an alumnus or alumni who has or have demonstrated a clear commitment to serving the community through volunteerism, an outstanding act of selfless or a pattern of service to humanitarian efforts or causes.

The Outstanding Young Alumnus Award will similarly go to the Young Mfantsipim Alumnus, who having graduated from the School has within the first decade after graduation conducted himself with selfless services and commitment to activities of the school as well as rendering such other services of extraordinary distinction to his community and nation.

Other awards are the Distinction Awards: For an Old Boy who after 20 years of graduation has made significant contribution of achievement in his chosen professional field which reflects positively on Mfantsipim School’s vision, motto and dreams of the school’s forefathers.

Awards of Merit will go to an Old Boy, who within 20 years of graduation has also made significant accomplishments in business or professional life. He would have also demonstrated a clear commitment to excellence in their careers and through their careers have achieved visible public recognition, achievement and leadership.

Individual recipients of five (5) Mfantsipim Distinction Awards or Awards of Merit qualify to be nominated for induction into the School’s Hall of Fame.

Business leadership, Entrepreneurship and Management Award: To recognize and honor alumni in business leadership, entrepreneurship and management and who has demonstrated the spirit of leadership and drive in these areas.

Education Award: For awardees in the field of education including classroom teaching, administration, supervision and school services from basic school through tertiary level to teaching staff where accomplishment and commitments to the growth, enhancement and development of the school’s academic pursuit for excellence.

Science, Technology and Innovation Award: This is in recognition and honour to Old Boys for outstanding accomplishments in science, technology and innovation work, having published extensively, both nationally and internationally works that impact on humanity.

Distinction in Governance: Public Service, National Defense & Security Award: This would be an award to recognize and honor the awardees for outstanding contributions to local, district, regional and national or international community generally, but not exclusively, through opportunities in appointed or elected office or public service non-profit organizations as well as in governance, national defense and security.

Distinction in Sustainable Economic, Chieftaincy, Religious Affairs & Social Development: This award is for recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of an old boy in this category.

The final award is the Distinction in Media, Music, Sports and Arts Award which is an award to also recognize the outstanding accomplishments of an old Boy in the media, music, sports and arts.
