Tigo’s CSR initiative receives commendation

Ms. Mary-Anne Addo, Head of Labour Statistics at the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, has commended Tigo’s systematic approach to social investment through its CSR initiatives, saying this will go a long way to improving lives and supporting communities.

Ms. Addo was speaking at the launch of Smile Champions, a CSR initiative by Tigo aimed at improving communities.

“It is my hope that other corporate bodies will follow the steps of Tigo and be responsive to the needs of society, bearing in mind that government alone cannot provide the socio-economic needs of society because of its resource handicap.

“It is my wish that more businesses in Africa will follow this example so that more resources, both human and material, will be at the disposal of our communities to raise the living standards of our people.”

The new initiative will give Ghanaians the opportunity to tell Tigo of the needs of any community of their choice and the help they require, based on which entries will be shortlisted for execution by the company.

Selorm Adadevoh, General Manager of Tigo who launched the initiative at Ada in the Greater Accra Region, explained that the project will seek to bring transformation across the 10 regions and put smiles on the faces of Ghanaians.

“Tigo has decided to take the extra step to contribute to the change it wants to see in the country by moving through each community one at a time.”

The company also used the occasion to present a set of beds and mattresses to the maternity ward of Ada Health Centre, which it refurbished at the request of the community during the last Asafotofiam festival of the Ada traditional area.
