UBA celebrates AU Day

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana joined other African countries to celebrate this year's African Union (AU) Day with pageantry at all of its branches across the country.

25th of May every year has been set aside as Africa Day in commemoration of the establishment of the African Union (AU) in 1963. This year, Africa Day was celebrated all over the continent and in the Diaspora under the theme: “Accelerating Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development.”

The day is also devoted specifically to the celebration of African diversity and success. The objective is to celebrate the achievements of African people and businesses that have brought pride to the continent globally, and inspire Africans to strive daily for distinction through ethics and diligence.

The broad objectives of the Africa Day still hold true for us as an institution as we commit ourselves to the African continent, the bank’s management said in Accra.

“In line with our vision to become a leading financial institution in Africa, we have expanded our reach to 19 African countries, including Côte d'Ivoire and Sierra Leone.

The list keeps growing as we aspire to become the dominant pan-African financial-service institution.”

We have elected to celebrate Africa across the Group through employee-engagement activities so that as a bank, we all celebrate our African heritage in a united and colourful manner.

UBA has celebrated Africa Day in the last two years and is committed to making the 25th of May each year an annual day of celebration.

Activities the UBA Group planned to celebrate the day include decoration of regional head offices across the Group, including displays of the sights and sounds of Africa for one week, and institution of a culture of African hospitality at branches and customer-facing locations and reception areas.
