Mantrac injects US$60m into economy


Mantrac Ghana says it over US$60million investment injection over the last two years is aimed at boosting the company’s capabilities and structures. It is also targeted at expanding its business portfolio and to deepen customer service delivery in the country’s automobile industry.
 
The investment is directed at improving new facility at Tema Free Zones area, Kumasi new facility, Takoradi new facility, Accra facility, New CRC facility, Kumasi SOS laboratory and Takoradi Training Center.

Denise Johnson, Caterpillar Group President told business executives, directors from the Ministries, Members of American Chamber of Commerce, Diplomats, business leaders and customers of the company in Accra at a business networking event to officially celebrate the company’s 80th anniversary in Ghana.

“We see a lot of opportunities in the Ghanaian market. It’s worth mentioning that this visit is coming at the time of launching our 80th year anniversary of Mantrac Ghana’s dealership, making Mantrac Ghana Limited one of the oldest Dealers in the world outside USA,” she said. 

Mantrac Ghana  has evolved from Gold Coast Machinery and Trading (GCMT), a division of United Africa Company since 1937, to Tractor & Equipment (T & E) and finally to Mantrac Ghana Limited, part of the giant Mantrac Group since 1996. 

Emad Adeeb, Managing Director of Mantrac Ghana explained that the company is hopefully of completing and commissioning various projects by close of this year and it is expected to offer over 100 workforce locally. About 300 staff are currently being contracted to work on the project. 

This is the biggest investment undertaking by Mantrac in the country to support sectors namely mining, oil and gas, constructions, he said.

Supporting the economy, Adeeb said that the company’s CSR support projects has invested over US$150,000 into ‘Right to Dreams Footballs Academy and School of which part of Caterpillars Technicians for Africa Project – Ghana Enrollment started December last year. Over 430 people have already been trained free of charge as Caterpillar technicians awaiting for Certification.

He indicated that in 2016 December the Airport Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority awarded Mantrac Ghana as the “2nd Top Tax Payer” from Air Freights duties due to the constant demand for caterpillar spare parts for customers. The company paid over Ghc 43, 000, 000. 00 to the GRA as tax contribution.
